What to expect from the European Youth Energy Day 2025

The European Youth Energy Day (EYED) returns in 2025 as one of the key moments of the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW), showing the European Commission’s commitment to involving young people in the clean energy transition. This year, EYED will offer a rich programme that goes beyond a single session, creating a space for meaningful engagement, learning and exchange.

new generation of young professionals is stepping up to help lead the charge towards a cleaner and more sustainable future. EYED is powered by the Young Energy Ambassadors (YEAs): driven individuals from across Europe, aged 18 to 34, bringing fresh thinking and diverse experience - from engineering and policymaking to research and advocacy.

Young voices challenging greenwashing in cities

At the heart of EYED 2025 is a public session led by the YEAs, titled ‘Net-zero or net-hype? Rethinking European cities’. This discussion will tackle the critical issue of urban sustainability and expose where ‘green’ solutions fall short of their promises. The session will use real examples to show the difference between genuine low-carbon solutions and greenwashing, and explore how policies can better support real change in cities.

Participants can expect a dynamic exchange between young professionals, policymakers, and experts in energy, urban planning and sustainability. Open to all EUSEW attendees, this session will be a key moment for youth participation during the week.

Get hands-on with Europe’s energy map at EUSEW

At this year’s EUSEW, you will have the chance to explore Europe’s energy landscape in a new, interactive way. The Young Energy Ambassadors invite you to join them around a large-format magnetic map of Europe to estimate the energy mix of different Member States, discuss, and exchange ideas.

Participants will use magnetic icons to build up a picture of Europe’s energy sources and cross-border grid connections - prompting lively conversations about the challenges and opportunities of different national energy mixes. It is a chance to test assumptions, compare insights with fellow experts, and reflect on how collaboration across borders is shaping Europe’s energy future.

Drop by, get involved, and see where the connections take you.

Jobs and skills clinics

To make the most of the EUSEW platform, EYED 2025 will also feature side-activities developed and hosted by the Young Energy Ambassadors, in collaboration with the Digital Ambassadors, CINEA and DG ENER colleagues. These informal but informative activities will happen during each coffee break and are open to everyone, especially those interested in clean energy careers and Europe’s energy systems.

Young professionals, including experienced YEAs and Digital Ambassadors, will be available to provide insights and guidance on clean energy careers. From CV tips to one-on-one conversations about entering the sector, this activity offers practical support to students, early-career professionals, or those considering a career change. Experts from DG ENER will also be present to offer insights into EU actions on energy skills and workforce development.

Young Energy Ambassadors: energising the conversation

This year’s EYED is backed by the energy and vision of 60 Young Energy Ambassadors (both cohorts of 2024 and 2025) joining from across Europe. These young professionals bring a rich mix of expertise, from law and engineering to social innovation and urban policy, and represent the next generation of clean energy leaders.

Their presence throughout EUSEW 2025 ensures that youth engagement is not only symbolic, but also at the centre of policy conversations and solution-building. Young Energy Ambassadors will, in addition to the public programme, participate in closed door activities with the Commission’s policy experts and step into the shoes of MEPs for an afternoon to learn about the EU’s legislative process.

The impact of youth engagement at EUSEW 2025 goes beyond the event week. The ideas shared will guide the work of the Young Energy Ambassadors over the year, feeding into EU and local policy discussions and helping ensure young people remain part of shaping Europe’s clean energy future.

Join the momentum

EYED 2025 invites all EUSEW participants, young and experienced alike, to engage with the next generation of energy leaders. Whether attending the main session, participating in the map activity, or seeking guidance at the careers clinic, this year’s programme promises impactful, practical, and youth-driven contributions to Europe’s sustainable energy transition.
